Quick Market Snapshot
Home prices rose both year over year and month over month, according to CoreLogic’s Home Price Index (HPI). Home prices nationally increased 6.6 percent from January 2017 to January 2018 and around 18% in the East Bay.
Looking ahead, the CoreLogic HPI Forecast indicates that the national home-price index is projected to increase 4.8 percent on a year-over-year basis from January 2018 to January 2019, with a 12-month increase of more than 7 percent projected for California, Florida, Nevada, and Oregon. This forecast reinforces what I have been experiencing during open houses and the number of offers submitted. Though buyers are still actively looking for a home on average a house is getting less foot traffic and fewer offers with a more “reasonable” over-asking price than before. Trend should continue in the same direction for the rest of the year especially with the threat of interest rates hiking up.
