City of Albany

albany map.jpgAlbany has it all! This community oriented city boasts low crime rates, well-kept homes with manicured gardens, friendly neighbors, grassy parks and playgrounds, a charming main street, a host of services, programs and wholesome events for children, families and the elderly, and excellent schools.

Albany schools consistently place among the highest percentiles in student achievement. The school district proudly boasts the continued achievement of producing some of the highest academic test scores throughout the state. Home sales bring top dollar due to the excellent schools.

Albany primarily has two- to three-bedroom single-family homes, ranging from charming California and Craftsmen bungalows, to Mediterranean styles and many McGregors. There are also three large, view-oriented condominium complexes on the west side of Albany Hill.

A haven for people-watching, Albany’s Solano Avenue is a pedestrian-friendly street dotted with gourmet groceries, florists, and charming boutiques, antique shops, cafes and excellent restaurants. Residents from all over the Bay Area have discovered this quaint street, and it is now a popular destination for tourists as well as locals.

The Solano Stroll hosted in September attracts thousands of visitors. The Albany Bulb, situated on a former garden and concrete dump site on the Bay, now parkland, offers many interesting diversions.

Situated between North Berkeley, Kensington and El Cerrito, Albany is close to major freeways as well as BART and other public transportation. San Francisco can be as close as 20 minutes.

With some of the most dramatic views in the entire area, homes on Albany Hill are very desirable. To the west, homeowners enjoy straight-on views of the majestic Golden Gate Bridge and sparkling San Francisco Bay. Those on the east side gaze out over the picturesque Berkeley Hills.

Albany Hill residents are close to all the city has to offer, including its many fine retail shops, restaurants, and of course its excellent school system. Also close is the popular El Cerrito Plaza Farmers’ Market, for locally grown fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, and live music. Easy access to the Pacific East Mall, Point Isabel and the off-leash dog park is another feature of this great neighborhood.
